Russian lawyers say preparing suit against Apple for pay service

MOSCOW, Apr 20 (PRIME) -- Russian lawyers have started preparing a class lawsuit against Apple for unjustified unilateral termination of work of its payment service Apple Pay, a spokesperson for law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov, and Partners told PRIME on Wednesday.

“At the beginning of March, Apple announced suspension of supplies and sales of its products in Russia and the end of work of payment service Apple Pay. The company’s decision reduced the functions of the devices sold on the Russian market, and as a result, the value of the goods decreased and users’ consumer possibilities shrank significantly,” the spokesperson said.

The law treats similar actions as discriminatory and violating the rights and legal interests of consumers, which is a ground for going to court.

“Apple’s actions should be qualified as an intended infliction of moral harm on the Russian users and owners of Apple devices in an attempt to impact the mood in the society on the whole. The amount of claims should be noticeable to compensate the moral harm,” senior partner Konstantin Lukoyanov said.

Lawyers earlier filed a 60 million ruble class lawsuit against U.S. streaming platform Netflix for pausing business in Russia.
